Osprey are seen around the Fowey Estuary area and in the river and creeks every year but have not bred here in the recent past.

On Monday evening, 2 March 2015, in a very comfortable room kindly provided by Trenython Manor, our Fowey Osprey Project was launched.

Prior to this occasion, meetings had been held with Peter Kent of Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Andy Simmons and his colleagues at the National Trust. Maps were studied, historical Osprey records acquired from ERCCIS and boat exploration of the river and creeks led to a site visit to Haye Farm which was considered to be the optimum area for 2 artificial nests and 2 adjacent perch poles. The tenants and landowner are enthusiastic about the proposals. Andy transposed the chosen positions, which are on the north side of Penpoll Creek, onto the OS map and the next phase began.
